Environment/Natural Resources Technical Specialists for Productive Ecosystems Activity

Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for various potential Senior Environment & Natural Resources Technical Specialist positions on an upcoming USAID-funded program in Colombia. The 5-year USAID-funded nature-based solutions initiative titled Productive Ecosystems Activity (PEA) seeks to improve human well-being and biodiversity conservation by engaging key stakeholders, particularly the private sector, in the implementation of nature-based solutions that preserve ecosystems and ecosystem services.

 

These potential full-time positions will likely be based in Colombia for the full life of project (anticipated five years). For all positions, working knowledge of English, experience working in and managing multi-disciplinary teams, enthusiasm for frequent travel to field sites, knowledge of MS Office applications, and commitment to gender equity and social inclusion are required. Candidates with primary qualifications and experience in more than one of the below areas should indicate their interest in multiple positions in their cover letter. Private Sector Engagement (PSE) Manager: The successful candidate will have a minimum of five-years proven experience working with private sector partners and investors, preferably in the natural resources sector. S/he will lead the design and implementation of project-supported interventions that promote private sector investment in nature-based solutions. S/he will develop global, regional, and national institutional relationships with private sector and financial institutions and identify innovating financing mechanisms that incentivize private sector investors and leverage private sector capabilities to promote market-driven solutions. Demonstrated experience facilitating public-private partnerships preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Business Administration, Finance, etc.) is required, Master’s a plus.

 

Payment for Environmental Services (PES) Specialist: The successful candidate will have a minimum of five-years proven experience designing, implementing, and evaluating PES schemes, carbon and biodiversity offset mechanisms, and/or other environmental markets schemes (for environmental services such as water); at least two years in the Andean paramos, Orinoquía, and/or Caribbean regions. S/he will provide technical and managerial oversight in the development and implementation of PES and results-based mechanisms for GHG emissions reductions. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, Master’s a plus.

 

Sustainable Solutions Specialist: The successful candidate will have a minimum of five-years proven experience engaging with private sector partners and other stakeholders to support the development of sustainable business models for nature-based solutions and other environmentally sustainable market-based economic opportunities in Colombia. S/he will provide technical and managerial oversight to all project activities focused on strengthening sustainable nature-based value chains, and will coordinate regularly with other technical specialists. Experience promoting nature-based solutions, sustainable value chains, and working in Colombia’s PDET regions are preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, Master’s a plus.

 

Environmental Monitoring and Impact Specialist: The successful candidate will have a minimum of five-years proven experience in environmental monitoring of conservation of biodiversity and ecological processes in Colombia (including associate livelihood and value chain developments), with experience in the PDET regions preferred. S/he will provide technical and managerial oversight and capacity building of counterparts in the monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of biodiversity, including the use of innovative and “state of the art” technologies to monitor species migration, genetic flows, hydrology, and other key ecological processes; deforestation and other land use change; and threats. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (biology, ecology, forestry, wildlife conservation, etc.) is required, Master’s a plus.

 

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Specialist: The successful candidate will possess a minimum of five years of MEL work experience, preferably with a USAID-funded organization. Familiarity with performance monitoring systems is essential. Experience with databases, GIS and GPS applications is desirable. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject is required, Master’s a plus. Familiarity with land and natural resource issues, and with USAID MEL policies and reporting is a distinct advantage.

 

Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist: The successful candidate will have a minimum of five-years proven experience developing relationships with vulnerable populations in Colombia, including Afro-Colombians, indigenous peoples, youth, women, and potentially Venezuelan migrants related to natural resource management, land, and/or livelihoods issues. Demonstrated ability to address gender and social inclusion in outreach efforts required. A Bachelor’s degree in social sciences is required, Master’s a plus.

 

Nature-based Solutions Marketing and Communications Specialist: The successful candidate will have a minimum of five-years work experience in development and implementation of communication and marketing strategies to increase demand for sustainable nature-based solutions. Demonstrated experience working with local communications groups, community-based organizations and local businesses, and/or regional and national governments use of regular and alternative marketing channels (including social media and social media influencers). Familiarity with use of print, radio, and live presentation techniques is required. Familiarity with land and natural resources issues, and with USAID “branding” policies is an advantage. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject is required; Master’s a plus.
