Agriculture and Economic Growth Staff Associate, Data & Analytics (Remote)

Tetra Tech International Development is accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates to join our Agriculture and Economic Growth (AEG) Sector as a Staff Associate, Data Analytics. 

The AEG Sector leads Tetra Tech’s international work in agriculture, economic growth, disaster risk finance, and private sector development, implementing projects and providing technical resources and solutions for new business development, program operations and other Tetra Tech sectors. This exciting new position will combine project management, new business development, and advanced data analytics in agriculture, food security, and disaster risk management.

 

The successful candidate will join a dynamic team working on exciting international development projects for clients including the World Bank, World Food Programme, USAID, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Our team has a growing practice in zoonotic disease spillover, advanced crop analytics using machine learning and artificial intelligence, and in disaster risk finance and food security early warning using cutting edge analysis. The Staff Associate will bring concrete skills in areas such as data science, AI/ML, statistics, GIS, Remote Sensing technologies and project management.

 

This position be based in Burlington, Vermont, or Arlington, Virginia. Remote and Hybrid work arrangements are options for the right candidate.  

Responsibilities:

* Supports the development of advanced data and analytics solutions for clients including ML models (e.g., using Python or Tensorflow), and the development of analytical services in agriculture, food security, and disaster risk management

* Supports development of all aspects of proposals, assists with positioning and marketing, client interaction, and   develops networks in the industry

* Supports project management from start-up to close-out, as Deputy Project Manager

* Contributes to providing excellent service and high-quality work in technical areas

* Takes responsibility and actively works for their own professional development while also contributing to broader objectives of the company

* Actively supports AEG's efforts to develop and implement its thought leadership and positioning strategy, by conducting research, drafting technical communications (e.g., blogs), supporting the development of guidelines and tools, etc.

 

Qualifications:
* Master’s degree in data science, GIS, or related field; or Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 2 year of experience working in a relevant data science field professional services firm or similar organization;
* Prior project management experience in technical assistance programming in developing and transitioning countries;
* One or more years of relevant experience in a developing country is desired (service in a volunteer program is considered relevant);
* Strong knowledge of international donor projects and/or USAID-funded projects preferred;
* Ability to work in multi-disciplinary, cross cultural teams in the Home Office and the field with strong ability to convey analytical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences in writing and presentations;
* Speaking and reading proficiency in at least one foreign language preferred (Spanish or French an advantage);
* Availability for 30-40% international travel to developing, transitioning, and post-conflict countries (subject to COVID19 travel restrictions);

* Strong skills in relevant programming languages such as R, Python, Java, Scala, and/or C/C++ (R and Python strongly preferred);

* Experience in developing dashboards using R Shiny and/or Python Dash preferred

* Experience in model development related to agriculture, climate, and disaster risk strongly preferred (including through educational experience)

* Strong computer skills in MS Office and strong familiarity with databases
