Multiple Technical Specialists, Tayar Nepal Improved Disaster Risk Management Activity

Tetra Tech International Development Services is looking for multiple Technical Specialists for the upcoming 5-year USAID-funded disaster risk management initiative in Nepal. The purpose of the project is to strengthen Nepal’s disaster risk management capacity and institution in a way that is inclusive, makes use of known best practices and technological interventions, and is adaptive to changing circumstances. The project will improve national level systems and institutions, build capacity at the municipal level, and support national and municipal level institutions to strengthen disaster response.

**Please note: These are local positions. Only candidates with Nepali citizenship will be considered**

 

Disaster Risk Management Specialist: to provide technical and managerial oversight and support to disaster risk management activities (preparedness, mitigation and recovery) at the national and municipal levels.

* Master’s degree in relevant discipline required.

*Minimum 7 years of experience assisting private and public institutions, and communities to manage disaster risk applying international best practices in disaster risk management as well as policy and practice in Nepal.

* Experience developing institutional capabilities and local capacity to manage and respond to natural hazard risks.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.

Resilience Specialist: to provide technical and managerial oversight in the development and implementation of gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) responsive disaster risk management policies and programs.  

* Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline. Advanced degree preferred.

*7+ years’ experience in assessing gender and social inclusion differential vulnerability to disasters; building the capacity of stakeholders to understand and effectively address the differential vulnerabilities. 

*Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.

Capacity Building Specialist: to build the capacity of institutions, communities and individuals to assess, develop, implement and sustain disaster risk management policies and programs.

* Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline. Advanced degree preferred.

*Minimum 7years of experience in facilitating participatory processes to effectively engage a diversity of stakeholders to collaboratively plan, implement and evaluate disaster risk management activities at the municipal and community levels, and designing and implementing formal and informal adult training processes.

*Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.

Urban Land Use Planning Specialist: to provide technical and managerial oversight in the development and implementation of participatory, evidence-based, land-use planning processes at the municipal and community levels.  

* Master’s degree in relevant discipline.

*Minimum 7 years of experience working with municipal and community level land-use planning in Nepal engaging stakeholders in a participatory way, and developing and applying data-driven decision-making tools that improve the capacity of government and citizens to establish and implement realistic, effective risk-sensitive disaster risk plans. 

* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.

Knowledge Management and Communications Specialist: to generate, capture and communicate knowledge and promote learning to further the activity’s objectives.

* Master’s degree in relevant discipline.

*Minimum 7 years of experience working with institutions, nationally and sub-nationally, to generate, document and communicate knowledge (evidence-based monitoring information, best practices, innovative models and lessons-learned).

*Experience developing information and knowledge management tools in one or more technical disciplines such as disaster risk management, decentralized services, and capacity building (institutional and individual).

* Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali.
