Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for Assistant Project Managers. This position is based in Arlington, VA or Burlington, Vermont areas with consideration of other remote, US-based locations.
Position Description: These Assistant Project Managers (APM) will form the first cohort of the Project Management Professional Program. The APM position will join Tetra Tech’s newly established Project Management Unit (PMU) in providing project management support while working with Project Management Teams (PMTs) primarily for USAID-funded projects. The Project Management Professional Program will proactively recruit talented and motivated early career staff who are passionate about international development and interested in project management. The Project Management Professional Program will:
- Develop a skilled cadre of Assistant Project Managers who will work closely with the Director of Project Management and PMTs to strengthen project management support and delivery across Tetra Tech’s project portfolio.
- Provide rigorous formal and on-the-job PM training and assign Project Management Professionals to at least one project as an Assistant Project Manager.
- Provide exposure to a wide variety of PM tasks through real world work on international development projects.
The APM role will offer early career professionals the opportunity to grow into well-rounded international development practitioners who understand the entire international development project lifecycle and have the skills to contribute project management support and expertise in both Home Office and Project Team roles.
Responsibilities:
* Provide day-to-day project administration and backstopping support to at least one project in an Assistant Project Manager role;
* Attend all PMT meetings (may include taking and circulating meeting notes);
* As needed, travel to project sites to work with project teams, support events, or help fill short-term staffing needs, and support administrative project start-up and close-out tasks;
* Support subcontracting and grantmaking processes as needed;
* Assist with hiring and mobilizing consultants and hiring long-term staff (gather/review HR documents, check references, draft consultant agreement, submit travel and advance requests, review consultant invoices and expense reports, assist with salary calculations, review draft employment agreement, etc.);
* Manage DEC submissions; review documents and presentations for grammar, formatting, etc.; liaise with the production team on requests for editing/formatting/508 compliance support;
* Process funds requests; assist with monthly and annual projections; assist with review of draft invoices and updating of the project workbook; review DBA and Medex charges;
* Ensure prompt payment of consultants and vendors, including conducting verbal account verifications and liaising with accounts payable;
* Lead on entering and maintaining information in Tetra Tech systems (Salesforce, ARDIS, Teams, etc.); assist with maintenance of project management systems to ensure that they remain relevant and are improved and streamlined to keep pace with changes in the company;
* Provide input in support of project management training content development for home office and project staff; provide input to continuous improvement of project systems and tools; and
* Complete necessary project management training and build foundational understanding of project management responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle; and engage in skill coaching/mentor relationships.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a field related to international development or one of the firm’s practice areas;
* A history of academic and professional success;
* Demonstrated strengths in multi-tasking and with teamwork;
* Fluency in English required; proficiency in a second language preferred;
* Proficiency with MS Office applications;
* Ability to work in multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural teams, with strong written and verbal communication skills;
* Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills;
* Effective time management and organizational skills;
* Availability for short-term international travel to developing, transitioning, and post-conflict countries;
* High level proficiency in MS Office applications;
* U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is an absolute requirement.

Pay Transparency Statement:
We are committed to taking a thoughtful, compliant, and equitable approach to employment compensation. We commit to providing a holistic comprehensive salary analysis, including reviews of individual skill sets and compensable factors related to qualifications, business needs, internal compensation data, and industry and labor market surveys. The anticipated pay range for this position is $51,000 to $56,000 annually.
