Senior Associate, Climate Finance, Environment and Natural Resources (US-based remote)

Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for Senior Associate, Climate Finance, Environment and Natural Resources. This position is preferably based in Arlington, Virginia, or Burlington, Vermont, with consideration of remote work from US-based locations.

 

The Senior Associate’s role is an opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to Tetra Tech’s mission of providing innovative solutions to complex environmental challenges. Embedded in Tetra Tech’s Environment & Natural Resources (ENR) Sector, the successful candidate will expand Tetra Tech’s market position and climate finance service offerings across Tetra Tech’s practice areas of Environment and Natural Resources, Agriculture and Economic Growth, Land Tenure and Property Rights, Water Resources Infrastructure, and Democracy and Governance. This position will be responsible for both program implementation and new business development, primarily for USAID-funded projects.

 

Qualified candidates will have experience and knowledge in various areas related to climate finance, including debt for nature swaps, carbon finance, nature-focused bond structuring/issuance, blended finance mechanisms, and more. The candidate will apply this expertise and contribute to Tetra Tech’s successful practice in climate change mitigation through land use, climate adaptation finance (including from the public and private sector, private and multilateral funds), facilitation of structured investments or PPPs, and screening of potential investment opportunities as part of a technical assistance facility. Additionally, the successful candidate should be able to develop innovative financial instruments that support climate mitigation and adaptation objectives.

 

A successful candidate will have a broad base of experience and a network that facilitates partnerships which achieve the sustainable finance objectives of Tetra Tech’s clients. The Senior Associate’s responsibilities include establishing and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, such as donors, investors, financial institutions, and private sector entities. The candidate should be comfortable working in a team environment and should be willing and able to lead and mentor junior staff.

 

Responsibilities:

* Identify, pursue, strategize, support, and lead the preparation of proposals for sustainable finance for climate change adaptation and mitigation in developing countries;

* Develop and promote technical leadership and learning on climate finance in multiple development settings, both internally (convening Tetra Tech’s experts to develop ideas and select opportunities to highlight) and externally (writing position papers and making presentations on behalf of Tetra Tech);

* Identify and cultivate new clients and partners to strengthen Tetra Tech’s market position for climate finance opportunities;

* Travel regularly to provide technical assistance to projects;

* Represent Tetra Tech to clients in the US and developing countries; and

* Act as Lead Technical writer or Proposal Manager, according to the needs of specific bids.

 

Qualifications:

* Master’s degree in finance, economics, business administration, development practice, or another related field;

* Minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience, including at least three (3) years overseas with strong client, supervisor, and peer recommendations;

* Demonstrated excellence and qualifications in sustainable finance for land use (e.g., forestry, biodiversity conservation, watershed management, agriculture) and climate change adaptation and mitigation;

* Experience working for, or collaborating with, partners in private sector, academia, research institutions, and government ministries and agencies; experience in cultivation of partner networks preferred;

* Ability to work in multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural teams in the USA and overseas with strong written, oral, and presentation skills;

* Demonstrated commitment to client satisfaction, through technical excellence of deliverables and/or managerial strengths in scope, schedule, and budget;

* Fluency in English;

* Must be comfortable working on concurrent projects and activities with poise and professionalism;

* This position requires frequent international travel (10-25%);

* Previous experience working with USAID required, and experience with additional clients preferred;

* Experience managing and supervising large, complex projects in developing countries preferred;

* Functional competence in a second language relevant to Tetra Tech’s work strongly preferred; and

* U.S. work authorization required.
