Deforestation and Climate Change Advisor for Colombia Destination Nature Activity

Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a potential Deforestation and Climate Change Advisor position on a USAID-funded program in Colombia. The USAID-funded nature tourism initiative titled Destination Nature Activity (DNA) seeks to build sustainable business models for Colombia's nature tourism sector that support community development, conserve the country's rich biodiversity, and reduce drivers of land use change.

 

Working under the direction of the Chief of Party (COP), the Deforestation and Climate Change Advisor will be in charge of leading the design and implementation of the Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Strategy. S/he will also be responsible for tracking and reporting the Activity’s performance regarding biodiversity conservation and land-use change drivers and greenhouse gas emission reduction, as well as meeting the Activity’s Environmental Management Approach (EMA). This would be a full-time position based in Colombia for the full life of project.

 

Responsibilities:

* Provide leadership in the design and implementation of the Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Strategy.

* Ensure the project’s compliance with the USAID Biodiversity Policy Code, USAID Climate Strategy, USAID environmental regulation 22 CFR 216, and operational guidelines for both Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Landscapes Earmark Funds.

* Track and report on the project’s performance in terms of biodiversity conservation, land-use change drivers and greenhouse gas emission reduction.

* Implement the project’s EMA.

* Supervise small technical team.

 

Qualifications:

* Postgraduate education degree in natural or related science and/or, administrative science and/or climate change.

* At least eight years of experience in forest and/or climate change project management. Previous experience in addressing drivers of deforestation, environmental degradation, or land use change drivers; preferred experience working with GOC and/or international organizations and donors, ethnic communities, and the sustainable tourism sector.

* Written and spoken fluency in Spanish and English (Level III for both).

* Experience and knowledge of the country’s context and/or the area of work is preferable.

* Colombian nationals are strongly encouraged to apply.
