Deputy Chief of Party for Technical for Productive Ecosystems Activity

 

Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a potential Deputy Chief of Party-Technical (DCOP-T) position on an upcoming USAID-funded program in Colombia. The 5-year USAID-funded nature-based solutions initiative titled Productive Ecosystems Activity (PEA) seeks to improve human well-being and biodiversity conservation by engaging key stakeholders, particularly the private sector, in the implementation of nature-based solutions that preserve ecosystems and ecosystem services.

 

The DCOP-T will be responsible for leading technical components of the PNA relating to nature-based solutions in Colombia as well as for supervising cross-cutting teams. The role will require supervision of technical specialists and cross-cutting staff and will work with the Chief of Party to ensure that technical outputs contribute to overall Activity goals.

 

This potential full-time position will be based in Colombia for the full life of project (anticipated five years). Familiarity with the biodiversity conservation sector in Colombia and experience working with biodiversity- or sustainability-sector stakeholders and private sector engagement in an environmental context is required. Experience working with biodiversity conservation, sustainability, natural resources management, forestry, ecology, payments for ecosystem services or other environmental markets, and private sector collaboration are all assets. Strong communication skills in both English and Spanish, enthusiasm for frequent travel to field sites, knowledge in MS Office applications, and commitment to gender equity and social inclusion are required. Responsibilities:

* Oversee technical implementation of the Activity and ensure impacts achieve the results defined in the contract;

* Provide technical expertise and support annual activity work planning and adaptive management of Activity as needed in accordance with the Activity’s objectives and targets;

* Assist in coordinating Activity implementation, providing support to personnel and subcontractor management, and efficient budgeting and financial management, as needed;

* Ensure coordination between the Objective team and other project teams;

* Evaluate and document activity progress and lessons learned;

* Assume responsibility for quality control and timeliness of deliverables.

*Serve as the interim Chief of Party (COP) when the COP is not available.

 

Qualifications:

* Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in biodiversity conservation, sustainability, natural resources management, forestry, ecology, biology, business administration, or some other relevant discipline is required.

* Not less than 8 years project experience, preferably in Colombia, working in one or more technical disciplines: biodiversity conservation, sustainability, natural resources management, natural resource-based livelihoods, value chains, forestry, ecology, payments for ecosystem services or other environmental markets, business administration, land-use planning, and/or other relevant technical areas.

* Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory position managing multi-disciplinary teams.

* Proven track record working in multi-disciplinary teams, engaging effectively with stakeholders, fostering collaborative learning and adaptive management, and promoting gender equity and social inclusion.

* Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish.

* Strong familiarity with the policy, social, economic, environmental, and cultural context in Colombia, and in particular the PDET regions of Colombia.
