Tourism Information and Governance Lead for Destination Nature Activity

Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a potential Tourism Information and Governance Lead position on an upcoming USAID-funded program in Colombia, titled Destination Nature Activity. The 5-year USAID-funded nature tourism initiative titled Destination Nature Activity (DNA) seeks to build sustainable business models for Colombia's nature tourism sector that support community development, conserve the country's rich biodiversity, and reduce drivers of land use change.

 

The Tourism Information and Governance Lead will be responsible for leading technical components of the DNA relating to evidence-based governance and coordination of sustainable nature tourism. The role will require supervision of technical specialists and working with other objective leads, cross-cutting staff, and the Chief of Party to ensure that technical outputs contribute to overall Activity goals.

 

This potential full-time position will be based in Colombia for the full life of project (anticipated five years). Familiarity with the nature tourism sector in Colombia and experience working with tourism-sector stakeholders is required. Experience with data collection and indicator development in the tourism sector is an asset. Working knowledge of English, enthusiasm for frequent travel to field sites, knowledge in MS Office applications, and commitment to gender equity and social inclusion are required. Responsibilities:

* Oversee technical aspects of the Objective and ensure that impact is achieving the results defined in the contract;

* Ensure coordination between the Objective team and other project teams;

* Evaluate and document activity progress and lessons learned;

* Assume responsibility for quality control and timeliness of deliverables.

 

Qualifications:

* Minimum of a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in sustainable tourism, business administration, natural resources management, biology, or some other relevant discipline is required.

* Not less than 8 years project experience, preferably in Colombia, working in one or more technical disciplines: nature tourism, biodiversity conservation, forestry, natural resources management, sustainability, business administration, land-use planning, and/or other relevant technical areas.

* Minimum of 3 years in team-lead role supervising technical outputs of team members.

* Proven track record working in multi-disciplinary teams, engaging effectively with stakeholders, fostering collaborative learning and adaptive management, and promoting gender equity and social inclusion.

* Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish.

* Strong familiarity with the policy, social, economic, environmental, and cultural context in Colombia, and in particular the PDET regions of Colombia.
