Deputy Chief of Party – Commercialization of Smallholder Agriculture through Growth Poles

Tetra Tech International Development is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a potential Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) position on an anticipated USAID-funded agriculture program in Malawi.

 

Position Description:  Working under the overall direction of the Chief of Party (COP) and in coordination with project technical staff and external partners, the DCOP will ensure the timely and effective delivery of project activities and results. The DCOP will provide technical leadership for one or more project components, support the COP in project management and donor relations, and serve as the technical and program point of contact in the absence of the COP. This is anticipated to be a full-time position based in Malawi for five years.

 

Qualifications:

*Master’s degree, or Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience, in economics, international development, agriculture or another relevant field;

*At least ten (10) years of demonstrated experience in the successful implementation of relevant development activities, especially in agricultural development, commercialization, private sector engagement, or other development fields with a focus on market systems strengthening, SME support, business enabling environments;

*At least 3-5 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in project management for USAID or other donor-funded development projects, including direct supervision of professional and support staff; Experience with USAID an advantage.

*Demonstrated experience analyzing challenges and opportunities in agricultural development and proposing strategies to capitalize on opportunities. Regional experience a plus;

*Demonstrated ability to engage in multi-stakeholder dialogue, including sustaining partnerships and strong working relationships with donors, host country government counterparts, academic institutions, and civil society;

*Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to think strategically and communicate his/her vision to partners and colleagues;

*Proven experience navigating complex and high-pressure operating environments;

*Proficiency in written and spoken English is required.
