Market Systems Development Specialist, USAID Jal Jangal Activity

Tetra Tech International Development is seeking qualified candidates to serve as Market Systems Development Specialist on the upcoming USAID-funded Jal Jangal Activity in Nepal. This five-year activity will focus on improving the health of ecosystems and biological diversity, environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience and addressing environmental crime in Nepal. The Activity will work with the Government of Nepal (GON), community groups, civil society, and private sector actors, and will align with GON’s vision of “Conservation of biodiversity for sound and resilient ecosystems and national prosperity.”

The Market Systems Development Specialist will lead design and implementation of strategies to apply market-systems approaches in support of conservation objectives in Nepal including in relation to forest and freshwater-based markets and other sectors that create opportunities to improve conservation while strengthening economic resilience of communities and reducing vulnerability. 

 

Qualifications: 

* Minimum of a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in natural resource management, economics, business administration, or other relevant discipline

* At least seven (7) years of experience working on donor-funded programs related to economic development, market systems strengthening, private sector engagement, or related

* Understanding of how market-systems principles can be applied to create value for natural resources include related to forest and/or freshwater-based markets and value chains

* Experience developing pro-poor interventions that explicitly address social inequalities and incorporate gender into programming

* Knowledge of private sector and business enabling environments in Nepal 

* Proven track record collaborating with a diverse array of stakeholders and fostering collaborative learning and adaptive management, and social inclusion with women, youth, indigenous and other vulnerable populations

* Professional fluency in English and Nepali required
