Senior Sustainable Livelihoods Technical Specialists, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands–USAID/Forest Governance Program

Tetra Tech International Development Services headquartered in Arlington, VA is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for various potential Senior Technical Specialist positions on an anticipated USAID-funded opportunity titled: Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands Forest Governance Program.

 

The purpose of the Program is to address the drivers of deforestation and forest degradation, unsustainable forest and land management, the lack of data to inform forest and land management decisions, and the lack of participatory land use planning and livelihood opportunities for forest-dependent communities in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.

 

Senior Technical Specialists will provide technical and management support to activities within their field of expertise to achieve project outcomes.

Qualified applicants from Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands are highly encouraged to apply.

 

Private Sector Engagement Specialist experienced in promoting private sector engagement and investment to support of local enterprises and entrepreneurs, particularly to promote environmentally sustainability commodity production models. Experience engaging global, regional, and national private sector actors with the ability to develop beneficial relationships with Melanesian entrepreneurs. Experience in also engaging and managing partnerships with natural resource commodity companies in implementing environmental and social sustainability goals. S/he will have robust existing public and private sector investment networks.

 

Sustainable Financing Specialist has experience implementing innovative and integrated sustainable finance for biodiversity conservation, improved land use and sustainable development. The ideal candidate will have existing relationships with financial institutions to develop and identify financial mechanisms and products to support targeted smallholders and businesses to apply environmental social safeguards and produce environmentally friendly goods and services. Significant experience and understanding of the Melanesian public and private financial investment landscape and ability to work with local banks to develop responsible financial products and mechanisms to support targeted entrepreneurs.

 

Value Chain Specialist (Non-timber Forest Products/Green Enterprises) experienced in assessing and selecting viable forest-based value chains in Melanesia, including identifying, developing and supporting nascent forest-based and green enterprises increase profitability. S/he will have experience strengthening forest-based value chains improve competitiveness, establish quality standards, and create market opportunities for non-timber forest products (and services). The ideal candidate will have experience developing and formalizing private public partnerships (PPPs) and will have robust existing public and private sector networks.

 

 

Qualifications: All candidates should meet the following minimum requirements:

 

·       7+ years’ experience in international development operations, preferably in the environmental/forestry sector, and working on large donor funded projects;

·       At least 4+ years of demonstrated experience providing technical input and/or advisory services in the designated area of specialization in a Melanesian context;

·       Advanced degree in relevant discipline;

·       Excellent communication skills in English
