COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST/PUBLICATIONS MANAGER - AFRICAN AND LATIN AMERICAN RESILIENCE TO CLIMATE CHANGE (ARCC)

Tetra Tech ARD (www.tetratechintdev.com) has an immediate opening for a PART-TIME (up to 20 hours per week) Communications Specialist / Publications Manager at our Arlington, Virginia office. This individual will support the implementation of the Washington D.C.-based PLACE IQC Task Order, and further - the African and Latin American Resilience to Climate Change (ARCC) Program. The ARCC Program supports the Economic Growth objective within the USAID Foreign Assistance Framework by promoting adaptation to climate change, and integration of adaptation into other economic investments, in order to safeguard and motivate sustainable, climate-resilient growth. More specifically, ARCC is a three-year program designed to provide technical, analytical, and project assistance, as well as capacity building, to promote adaptation to climate change to improve the ability of vulnerable populations to respond to climate challenges and safeguard economic growth in Africa and Latin America/Caribbean. The Communications Specialist / Publications Manager will be a member of the ARCC team and work under the general supervision of the Chief of Party. 

 

Responsibilities: 

*Manage the production of ARCC reports, case studies, success stories or other products from inception to distribution. This means working with authors to develop clear scopes of work, managing the budget for each publication and ensuring that products are delivered on time, are of high quality and are accurate. This will involve working closely with both writers and editors to ensure that publications are readable and grammatically while still capturing technical particularities and specific recommendations;

*Manage the development and production of graphics and work with authors, designers and editors to ensure that they are accurate, grammatically correct and contribute to the understanding of report content;

*Manage input from USAID as each document goes through an iterative process. The candidate should therefore be highly organized, well versed in editorial processes and a capable writer and editor;

*Edit and package success stories. This could either involve re-writing what is produced in the field or undertaking field assignments;

*Come up with creative and innovative ways to position the work of ARCC within the USAID context. Work with USAID counterparts to develop strategic communications products such as videos, success stories, slide shows, etc;

*Redevelop the communications strategy in concert with USAID objectives;

*Other duties as assigned by the Knowledge and Learning Manager.

 

Qualifications:

*3-7 years of management/supervisory and client relations experience, preferably in a communications or publishing related environment;

*A Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field; Master’s Degree in an appropriate discipline preferred;

*Proven experience managing publications management processes, the coordination of activities, determination of priorities and establishment of deadlines;

*At least 2 years of technical copy-editing experience in the area of climate change adaptation or a related field;

*Experience designing and overseeing content management process;

*Ability to work collegially under extreme deadline pressure and handle multiple work assignments;

*Experience working in a high-paced, small company environment;

*Experience supervising and coordinating workloads of freelance graphic designers, writers, editors, and translators;

*Strong organizational and project management experience that demonstrates a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;

*Demonstrated ability to coordinate and/or lead multiple projects simultaneously and to manage publishing process from concept to launch to distribution and to marketing/promotion;

*Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills and strong verbal communication are a must;

*Strong computer skills in word processing, design, and desktop publishing tasks. Knowledge of MS Office applications for design and publications production (e.g, Adobe InDesign/Photoshop / Illustrator/ Acrobat, scanning and text recognition, multimedia applications – e.g. Adobe Dreamweaver/Premier, etc.) desirable;

*Fluent in written and spoken English; and proficient in additional language (ideally Spanish or French) a plus;

*Previous experience working with USAID a plus;

*Willingness to travel internationally for work;

*U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is mandatory.
