Deputy Operations Manager I & II

Tetra Tech International Development Services, headquartered in Arlington, VA is a holder of the Famine Early Warning Systems (FEWS NET) 7 IDIQ contract.  Tetra Tech is now accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates to join the Washington DC-based FEWS NET Pillar One – Emergency Food Security Analysis Team, to facilitate rapid start-up should USAID award this Task Order to Tetra Tech. 

 

FEWS NET is a leading provider of food insecurity monitoring and early warning services that enable the US Government and its partners, including governments and national, regional, and international government and non-governmental organizations, to prepare for and respond to food security crises anywhere in the world. FEWS NET is headquartered in Washington DC and has 26 country and regional offices in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The objectives of activities implemented under Pillar One are to: (1) build the evidence base for food security analysis; (2) carry out emergency food security analysis and decision-support; and (3) strengthen networks and local systems to improve their capacity to contribute to and utilize FEWS NET analyses and reporting.

 

The Deputy Operations Manager is one of two Washington DC-based positions that sit within the Operational Support Team to provide operational and administrative guidance and support to project field offices. Deputy Ops Manager One will support country and regional offices in East Africa and Deputy Ops Manager Two will support country and regional offices in West Africa.

 

Responsibilities:          

* Maintain active field roster, track equipment, and manage project property compliance;

* Support procurement, grants, and subcontracts, including the preparation of draft RFQs and discussions with vendors;

* Assist Operations Manager in several areas including: local staff and consultant recruitment and fielding; local budget review and cost monitoring; and local procurement of good and services;

* Report to the Operations Manager.

 

Essential Qualifications and Competencies:

* Bachelor’s degree in management, agriculture, economics, anthropology, statistics, or related field;

* Fluency in English required; French required for Deputy Ops Manager Two;

* At least two years of experience providing operations management support to USAID-funded overseas programming, either in the field or from the home office;

* Experience living and working in a relevant FEWS NET country preferred;

* Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office;

* Willingness and ability to travel to relevant countries;

* Strong communications, organizational, and financial management skills.

* U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is an absolute requirement.
