Communications Director, Colombia

Tetra Tech International Development Services, headquartered in Arlington, VA is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified full-time, long-term Communications Director on a USAID-funded program in Colombia. The Communications Director manages and oversees a substantial communications portfolio that includes support for external, internal, regional, and client-focused communications. The Communications Director is a visible member of a high-profile program that frequently interfaces with USAID, Government of Colombia, and Embassy officials and leadership.

 

Responsibilities:
*Serve as the primary point of contact to USG, USAID, and Government of Colombia (GOC) partners on all communications related matters for the program.
*The Communications Director reports to the Chief of Party (COP) and manages three communications team members.
*Field incoming requests for information, talking points, messaging, etc. from US Embassy and/or USAID, and provide direct and rapid response.
*Develop strategic messages and talking points on a range of issues and topics, some of which are politically sensitive, and ensure they meet the needs of diverse audiences including the USG, the GOC, and internal staff.
*Develop, adapt, and refine content and messaging to be used across written, verbal and web-based communications.
*Collaborate with USAID, project leadership, and technical leads to develop a strategic outreach agenda that builds and fortifies critical relationships with GOC leadership and officials, and facilitates direct communication between USAID and GOC leadership on program focal issues.
*Collaborate with USAID and Embassy staff to develop and organize strategic field visits for high-level delegations, including USG congressional, State Department, and Embassy delegations.
*Develop trainings and coach staff on writing for story, effective presentation styles, and setting and leading effective meetings.
*Serves as a strategic advisor to the COP and the DCOP Technical on all internal and external communications related issues.
*Manage a communications team of three and provide final quality control and approval for all project communications products ensuring high quality products that strategically tell the project’s story.

Qualifications:
*Substantial communications experience (8+ years), including field experience working in politically sensitive post-conflict environments. 

*Excellent strategic writing, editing, and speaking skills.

*Ability to distill and present highly technical information into digestible, succinct, clear messages for high-level government audiences.
*Communications experience in the fields of development, policy, public affairs, and politics, or a combination thereof, highly desirable.
*Experience working with NGOs, USAID, US State Department, US Congress, or US Embassy in a communications role highly desirable.
*Bachelor’s degree in communications, public affairs, marketing, political science or public policy desirable. Master’s degree preferred.
*Deadline-oriented, responsive individual with experience working in fast-paced team environments.
*People-oriented individual who approaches challenges with patience and humor, and remains solutions driven.
*Fluency in Spanish and English.
