Agriculture and Economic Growth Associate/Sr. Associate

Tetra Tech ARD, headquartered in Burlington, Vermont, is accepting applications from qualified candidates for to join our Agriculture and Economic Growth (AEG) Sector as an Associate/Sr. Associate, depending upon years of experience. The AEG Sector leads Tetra Tech ARD’s international work in agriculture and private sector development, implementing projects and providing technical resources and solutions to the firm’s other sectors, as well as Program Operations. The Associate or Sr. Associate will focus on new business development opportunities, project management proposals, and developing a portfolio of billable technical assignments in one or more of the following areas: agricultural value chain selection and upgrading, market development, access to finance, development of partnerships, and the design and implementation of strategies to improve food security, address poverty, and stimulate job creation. 

This position is supervised by the AEG Sector Director and is based in Burlington, Vermont, or Arlington, Virginia.

 

Responsibilities:

* Identify, pursue, strategize, and lead the preparation of proposals for agriculture and private sector development and food security projects in developing countries, including conflict and transitioning countries;

* Develop and promote best practices and innovative approaches to addressing constraints in enhancing economic growth through identification of prospective clients and strategies to meet those needs, including writing position papers and coordinating marketing efforts;

* Travel regularly to provide technical assistance to projects, and to provide management and training support to project field staff, including project start-up and close-out;

* Represent Tetra Tech ARD to clients in the US and developing countries;

* Provide periodic, in-country coverage for project management for extended periods, as needed;

* Provide technical advice and solutions to proposal development and projects in other Tetra Tech ARD sectors; and

* Assist Sector Director in general market analysis for the sector, among other tasks, as directed.

 

Qualifications:

* Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in agriculture, economic development, business management, or related field;

* Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in development assistance with either a for-profit or a not-for-profit organization;

* At least three (3) years of previous supervisory or management experience;

* Technical knowledge and experience directly relevant to agricultural and private sector development, including design of successful technical approaches and implementation of technical interventions in the field;

* Demonstrated knowledge of USAID, particularly activities in integrated development, Feed the Future, and market systems;

* Ability to work in multi-disciplinary, cross cultural teams - in the Home Office and the field - with strong written, oral, and presentation skills;

* Speaking and reading proficiency in at least one foreign language highly desired;

* Track record in leading and/or writing winning proposals for USAID and/other donors;

* High proficiency in MS Office applications;

* Must be comfortable working on concurrent projects and activities with poise and professionalism;

* Must be an energetic, enthusiastic, and positive collaborative team player;

* Availability for frequent short-term international field work (~30%); and

* U.S. citizenship or a valid U.S. work permit is an absolute requirement
