Tetra Tech GLS, headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts (http://www.tetratechintdev.com/) is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a Sr. Electrical/Power Engineer candidate on a USAID funded program in Afghanistan.
The overall objective of this program is to provide management, coordination and direct engineering expertise and quality assurance monitoring and evaluation on a variety of engineering projects for our client.
Responsibilities:
* Coordinate with a team of engineers and manage site inspectors for the timely and accurate design of electrical systems including renewable energy and photovoltaic systems, power transmission and distribution (T&D) projects, and vertical structures from concept design and procurement support through construction;
* Provide managerial oversight to satellite office location in southern Afghanistan;
* Work with a Tetra Tech team and play a role in discussions about issues of national electrification policies including both the production of power from renewable and non-renewable sources and the Afghan nation’s electrical transmission and distribution systems;
* Review electrical shop drawings and respond to subcontractors’ questions and requests for information relating to electrical and sustainable energy issues;
* Coordinate specific reach back tasks with the US home office support staff as needed.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering from an accredited college or university;
* Professional Engineering (PE) license is required;
* At least fifteen (15) years of previous Electrical and/or Power Engineering experience;
* Knowledge of international codes and standards;
* Experience working under USAID contracts preferred;
* Previous overseas experience is desired. Experience working in a similar position for an NGO or an international organization is preferred;
* Working knowledge of English, both written and spoken. Able to communicate fluently and effectively both verbally and in writing;
* Willingness to accept a 12-month assignment in southern Afghanistan, with potential for an extended assignment depending upon performance
