Master Mechanic

PRO-telligent, A TetraTech Company, is seeking an experienced Master Mechanic for a government client. The position will be based in Haiti.

The advisor shall provide useful advice and sound management guidance to the Management of the HNP Central Garage and the HNP leadership in the ten (10) departments in the training of HNP mechanics to diagnose and repair vehicles.  The advisor shall coordinate all activities with the INL Haiti Director, attend regular meetings at the Embassy with the INL Haiti Director, and be responsible for preparing a written monthly report, which not only details activities undertaken, but provides an assessment of challenges and successes relating to the work of the HNP as it relates to the proper management of their large vehicle fleet. 

 

General Responsibilities

 

·       Work with INL Haiti, the Embassy Police Advisors in Port-au-Prince, and with the Haitian Government, to identify assistance projects relating to the diagnose and repair of HNP vehicles with the goal of having as many vehicles in operation as possible.  

·       Prepare concise and accurate records and reports and keeps INL HAITI regularly informed of programmatic and political developments.

·       Assist the HNP Central Garage leadership to design and implement administrative structures and processes which improve the systems and processes for information flow and control for the Central Garage and the ten (10) Departments relating to vehicle

        care, maintenance and usage.

·       Conduct and be the lead instructor for training classes to be held at the Central Garage (or another HNP location) to improve the overall quality of performance of the HNP mechanics at the Central Garage, the other satellite garages, BLTS, the DAP and               other units as may be identified as requiring training.   

·       Maintains extensive knowledge of Central Garage operations  

·       Continue the development of practical training courses to improve the vehicle operator skills of the cadets during their training and HNP Officers that operate vehicles.  By improving the operational skills of the drivers, the incidence of vehicle breakdown and          repair will be greatly reduced. 

·       Assist the Embassy in identifying and monitoring vehicle and vehicle parts donations to the HNP. 

 

Requirements:

·        Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to operate a standard transmission vehicle (an International Driving Permit for third country nationals)

·        Unblemished background

·        Excellent health and be able to pass requisite physical, medical and psychological tests

·        Valid U.S. passport (for non – U.S. citizens, valid passport from their country of citizenship)

·        Negotiating, interpersonal and leadership skills

·        The ability and willingness to train other individuals in their area of expertise

·        English and Creole language proficiency, both written and spoken is required; French is highly desirable.

·        Strong demonstrated analytical skills and hands-on experience in vehicle diagnosis and repair.   

·        Willingness and capability to work in a fluid environment, and under challenging circumstances.

·        Adequate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to prepare reports help manage vehicle parts inventories.
