VARIOUS POSITIONS – ASIA, AFRICA, LATIN AMERICA/CARIBBEAN

Tetra Tech ARD, headquartered in Burlington, Vermont is growing its Artisanal and Small Scale (ASM) Mining services related to conflict minerals, small and large scale mining and Corporate Social Responsibility. Toward this end, we are recruiting for the following positions for Asia, Africa and Latin America/Caribbean.

 

Team Leader/Chiefs of Party: Strong subject matter relevance with appropriate leadership skills. Demonstrated experience with contract management for bilateral agencies and multi-lateral banks necessary. Prior USAID experience helpful. Demonstrated ability to provide vision, leadership and strong team management of staff and partners. Equal ability to work with rural communities, regional and local government, private sector, and national-level agencies. Knowledge of international standards, guidance and best practices with respect to ASM, rules and compliance on matters related to minerals trade, certification, and chains of custody. Knowledge of the role that livelihoods, environmental management, labor, human rights, and land tenure/security play in Artisanal and Small Scale Mining.

 

Applicants with at least 10 years of relevant experience in some combination of the above skills should apply.

 

Technical Area Specialists – In addition to COP/Team Leaders, we are recruiting for:

*ASM Technical Specialists with demonstrated knowledge of technologies and techniques for improving ASM production methods, yields, and processing.

*ASM social and organizational development specialists with prior, demonstrated skills in helping ASM miners organize and develop their relationships with suppliers

*Mineral Chains of Custody – demonstrated experience in upstream and downstream chains of custody and how they fit into national and international best practice, policy and regulatory systems;

*Mining Labor issues – demonstrated skills in addressing the multitude of issues around ASM labor force development with particular attention to the role of gender and child labor;

*Minerals Certification – demonstrated knowledge and/or experience with the design, implementation and monitoring of certification efforts and their role in compliance and operations at ASM sites

*International and Regional Trade experts with demonstrated experience in mineral commodity trafficking in national, regional and international markets, as well as direct supply relationships.

*Land Tenure and Property Rights – prior experience in addressing and managing conflicting claims to mineral resources where land rights are secure and insecure

*Environmental Management and remediation for ASM mine sites, with an emphasis on water, health and sanitation

*ASM Governance Specialist – demonstrated experience working with relevant national and regional stakeholders and legal bodies to develop, formalize and reform ASM policies, regulations and mining codes.

 

Qualifications:

* A minimum of 5 years practical experience is needed for these technical area specialists. Applicants should speak at least one major language specific to their regional experience. Significant opportunities are opening for international development projects as well as private sector clients who are addressing ASM as a legitimate mining strategy, and/or trying to merge ASM within Large Scale Mining (LSM) operations.
