FORESTRY AND NRM TECHNICAL ADVISOR – India Partnership for Land Use Science (USAID Forest-PLUS), New Delhi

Tetra Tech ARD, headquartered in Burlington, Vermont, is accepting expressions of interest for the position of Forestry and Natural Resources Management Advisor to the India Partnership for Land Use Science (USAID Forest-PLUS) Program. Forest-PLUS is a 5-year sustainable landscapes climate change mitigation initiative between USAID and the Government of India which seeks to identify, develop, field test, demonstrate, techniques for an integrated ecosystem approach to forest management that equitably enhances the three co-benefits of REDD+: climate change mitigation; biodiversity and environmental services; and social values and economic livelihoods. The long-term goal is to help accelerate India’s transition to a low emissions economy. The Forestry and Natural Resources Management Advisor plays a key role in designing and guiding the implementation of Forest-PLUS interventions. The position would be full-time and based in New Delhi, but with frequent travel to field sites.

 

 

Responsibilities:

The Forestry and NRM Technical Advisor is a key personnel position that will help guide Forest-PLUS technical implementation to:

*Develop an integrated ecosystem management strategy to achieve REDD+ co-benefits appropriately for India’s forests and socio-economic context;

*Develop a flexible integrated ecosystem management planning/modeling tool to help plan the implementation of the strategy;

*Develop tools, techniques, and methods for better ecosystem management and REDD+ goals;

*Develop research priorities and oversee a research program in REDD+, forestry, and integrated ecosystem management;

*Engage the participation of communities, decision-makers, and other stakeholders and in integrated ecosystem management of Indian forests;

*Provide technical backing to field deployment and testing of REDD+ field techniques in four pilot landscapes;

*Support training programs in REDD+, forestry, and ecosystem management;

*Provide technical backing to the development of forestry policies supporting GoI goals for REDD+.

 

Qualifications:

 

*Advanced degree in forest management, environmental management, biodiversity conservation or related field;

*At least 10 years of forestry and natural resource management expertise, especially related to the application of improved forest management/silvicultural tools and techniques;

*Strong skills and experience in quantitative analysis, modeling, and statistics;

*Strong communications skills, both interpersonal and written;

*Fluency in English and Hindi required.
