SENIOR HORTICULTURE PRODUCTION SPECIALIST, HORTICULTURE TANZANIA

Tetra Tech ARD, headquartered in Burlington, Vermont is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a Senior Horticulture Production Specialist for an anticipated USAID funded horticulture value chain program in Tanzania. Locals are encouraged to apply.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for all agronomic components of the horticulture value chain (develop annual and quarterly workplans, design appropriate technical approaches, etc.)
  • Identify appropriate horticulture partners and coordinate partnerships to ensure effective and efficient program implementation;
  • Coordinate with other technical specialists (marketing, access to finance, post-harvest handling and processing) on cross cutting issues, including gender, youth, capacity building and environmental compliance;
  • Supervise regional horticulture production specialists located in field offices, as well as oversee the performance of local partners;
  • Provide horticultural partners and project-assisted vegetable production farmers/groups with direct technical assistance;
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of horticulture production interventions and approaches, compile monthly, quarterly and annual reports, and document best practices and lessons learned and package them into project success stories;
  • Identify needs for short-term technical assistance to supplement existing technical capacity (particularly with respect to providing advice, analyses and training related to the introduction of new production techniques/equipment in target zones).

 Skills and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in agronomy, production agriculture, agribusiness or related technical field of study, preferably specific to vegetable production (Masters preferred);
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in various aspects of vegetable production, input supply, agricultural production and the marketing of horticultural products;
  • Significant experience providing technical and training services to support vegetable production, preferably in the private sector;
  • Experience with international donor-supported agriculture and/or agribusiness projects
  • Experience with private sector and/or government-initiated agriculture or agribusiness development (vegetable production included);
  • Fluent English language skills. Swahili proficiency preferred.
